The health emergency we are experiencing requires us to face the risk of constant contagion.

Ozone has shown itself not only as an effective alternative to treating positive cases at COVID-19 but also as an efficient solution for sanitizing environments.

In this regard, the editorial Orbisphera resuming an interview with Dr. Maria Manuela Russo, vice president of the Order of Food Technologists of Campania and Lazio, on the so-called Gambero Rosso (April 24, 2020), brought to mind  the WHO document, where analyzes the best methods for the sanitization of water. The WHO document shows how ozone is the most effective disinfectant to deactivate all types of micro organisms, confirming its virucida and bactericidal function.

The WHO document states that ozone is the most efficient disinfectant because, unlike chlorine, it would have carcinogenic effects on living organisms according to a study by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) Ozone is a huge benefit to both the environment and health, avoiding any kind of side effect.

Nel 2001, la FDA (Food and Drug Administration), l’USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) e l’EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) Hanno approvato l’ozono come Agente antimicrobico GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) vale a dire Sicuro per la salute Umana.

In Circular No 24482 of July 31, 1996, the Italian Ministry of Health recognizes the ozone «natural device for the sterilization of environments contaminated by bacteria, viruses, spores, etc.and infested by mites, insects, etc.». On 21 October 2010, with the CNSA, the Ministry of Health recalled the use of ozone as a disinfectant and disinfectant.

As reported by the editorial Orbisphera, in the words of Dr.ssa Russo, the ozone, thanks to its powerful oxidative capacity, is able to damage membranes and cell walls, so as to clean air and water from mold, yeast, spore bacteria and viruses. The action of ozone on viruses consists in an oxidation and consequent inactivation of specific viral receptors, used for the creation of the bond with the cell wall to be invaded. In this way it blocks the viral replication at the level of its first phase: the cellular invasion.

In addition, Dr.Russo in the article stresses that ozone unlike other disinfectants (chlorine) that release polluting residues, ozone decomposes into oxygen, and this represents an enormous advantage both for the environment and for human health, resulting in no contraindications.

From every point of view, ozone sanitation is not only an efficient solution, it is also easy to do, as all you need is a certified ozone generator that can produce ozone safely and in sufficient quantities.

An interesting example, taken in the interview is the testimony in Liguria, where the retirement home Our Lady of Mercy of Celle Ligure announced the negative outcome of all serological tests at Covid-19. Similarly, no case of Covid-19 was registered at the residence for the elderly Santa Maria Giuseppa Rossello of Savona, as the nuns who run the structure have revealed that they use an ozone device to sanitize environments: «We use it regularly in the rooms and the difference is felt immediately». The same Dr. Valter Ameglio, health director of the residence, confirmed that ozone may have helped to defeat Covid-19 while maintaining sanitized environments.
